The NewTom 3G
Primary Reconstruction Speed
The NewTom 3G always takes 360 initial images--regardless of which field of view. We don't leave out images to increase speed--image quality is critical to us. Reconstruction time of the 360 images is a factor of processor speed. The NewTom 3G can perform reconstructions at different resolutions and voxel sizes. We recommend reconstructing the total volume at the highest resolution. With a slower processor like a 2.4GHz, this process could take around 17 minutes. However, with the new processors (3.4 GHz and up) being shipped with the machine today, this time is closer to 6 minutes. Faster processor, faster reconstruction--and always, highest quality!
Volumetric Data
The primary reconstruction creates 'volumetric data' from which studies are created. If the primary reconstruction was performed at the highest level and on the full volume, the raw data can then be discarded as all the information needed to create any study at any ROI or plane is available with the volumetric data. Any number of studies can be developed from the volumetric data in just a couple of minutes. Of course, once the studies are created, developing individual images is in real-time
Supine vs. Seated Positioning
Dental professionals are used to sitting or standing positioning for in-office 2D imaging. For 3D conebeam imaging, minimizing patient motion is critical for high quality results. Other system require a number of restraints to 'clamp' the patient into position which can be uncomfortable as well as appear in the scan. NewTom 3G patients lay comfortably on a padded patient table with their head on a foam pillow using gravity to assist in keeping the patient still, comfortable and motionless
Radiation Levels
It seems that every other week, a new study is released that points to the importance of minimizing radiation whenever possible. At AFP Imaging, patient safety is our number one concern. Radiation absorbtion is cummulative so keeping the dosage level as low as possible is extremely important--particularly for children with developing cells. The NewTom 3G has the lowest radiation levels in the industry. The 3G has a unique 'pulsed' x-ray system that only turns on the x-ray source when an image is being taken. But we go one step further, the NewTom 3G is the only system that automatically adjusts the radiation dosage based on patient size. This means that a small child may receive up to 40% less radiation than a full size adult. Other systems deliver exactly the same amount of radiation whether scanning a 300 lb adult or a small child. With the NewTom 3G, radiation levels are different for every patient--low radiation and clear and accurate images!
3rd Party Compatibility
The NewTom 3G outputs DICOM 3.0 formatted data. This industry-wide standard allows the NewTom 3G scan data to be used with a wide-variety of third party software/hardware providers including implant planning and surgical guides, appliance development and computer assisted surgical procedures.
Software Quality
The quality of the imaging software makes the system! Many of the NewTom 3G's industry leading software features are not found in comepetitor's offerings--like marking the mandibular canal, automatic placement of reference lines on the axial views, full control of report development, and many more. We also realize that it is important for doctors to have their own imaging software for use in their office. To meet this need, AFP Imaging offers the full NewTom 3G Professional/DICOM/MIP software package for $100.00--this package once sold for $5,500.00.
